Microbiology Module

Learning objectives
The aim of the microbiology module is to provide an overview of the different types of micro-organisms which can be responsible for human infections.

Why does microbiology represent a current concern?
  1. The emergence of multidrug-resistance
  2. Micro-organisms are responsible for major problems of public health worldwide (AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, healthcare-associated infections…).
  3. Because of the advances in Medicine, there is an increasing proportion of patients who are heavily immunocompromised or debilitated and become at risk of being infected

Purpose of this course
  1. Introduction to the interactions between micro-organisms and patients to understand the occurrence and the development of infectious diseases.
  2. Provide information about the outline, the constraints and the limits of the diagnosis of infectious diseases in the laboratory.
  3. Provide information about the emergence of multidrug-resistant organisms (viruses and bacteria).
